The Mivtachim sanitarium in Zichron Ya’akov is set on the slopes of Mount Carmel, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It was built by the “Mivtachim pension fund” in 1968, and hosted periodical retreats for workers of the “Histadrut” (General Organization of Workers in Israel).
It is 7,750 square meters, constructed in two sections – the rooms with the panoramic view to the Mediterranean, and the entrance hall in the back. The rooms are raised on large “Piloti”, allowing continuity to the gardens, air and view, as well as the buildings floating appearance. The jury of the Israel Award in 1973 remarked: “The building provides a rare example of an architecture that synthesizes the earth and sky.”
